Taking Care of your Prostheses:

Standard Silicone and Lightweight Silicone prostheses are easy to care for. To clean them just hand wash in warm water (below 40 degrees) and then air dry/ pat dry with a soft towel. They should not be subjected to very hot sunlight or excessive heat and you need to be careful to not pierce them with anything sharp. Store it in its box when not in use. Cleaning and looking after your prostheses properly will help them to last longer.

Fabric prostheses are made from an easy care lycra fabric that makes washing a breeze. It is best to hand wash lycra to prevent excessive stretching. Never use washing detergent that contains chlorine bleach or fabric conditioner as it will affect the structure of the fabric, just use a mild detergent.  To clean them just hand wash, in cold to lukewarm water (for both washing and rinsing). Add the prostheses to the water and gently agitate, lightly rubbing any stains. Rinse until all soap residue has been removed. Gently squeeze the excess washing water out – do not wring.

If you do want to machine wash your fabric prostheses you should first place them in a mesh washing bag to protect them. Use a mild detergent that contains no chlorine bleach and wash on a “delicate’s” setting (cool and gentle) Use a slow, gentle machine spin at the end of the cycle to remove excess water and then drip dry in the shade. You can sit them on a small rack so they dry quicker. Do not bleach and do not tumble dry (tumble drying can stretch the fabric over time).

Cleaning and looking after your prostheses properly will help them to last longer.
